I am definitely going to try to listen to more new stuff this year! My job is so stressful sometimes, that I get all to comfortable mindlessly scrolling instead of doing something creative or making myself focus on an album. No good! Here's to a better 2019 for you! All the gushing, I don't quite get, I thought *Holding All The Roses" was a better album.

I'm sure the comment below is pretty accurate, but I can't confirm as I've yet to be able to see them live. Like you, I think it's a good Southern Rock album. And I'm glad that there are still bands still playing good Southern Rock. That's where I'm at.Michael Rauchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05690632560074345372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7765132843753834666.post-76286087721344827662018-04-09T11:33:20.250-05:002018-04-09T11:33:20.250-05:00Yes you MUST see them live and it all comes togeth...Yes you MUST see them live and it all comes together. The melodies are relentless once it "kicks in" so to speak. Charlie Starr is a once in a generation talent. This is no exaggeration. I saw them for the first time in 2011 and didn't know w single song. It was a small club and I was a couple feet from Charlie. I've seen everyone over nearly 40 years and they blew me away! They have that IT factor as a band that very few do. In the time since I've met so many people who echo my story exactly. I've also gotten to know the band a little bit and they are great people.
Go see them and I'd be very surprised if you didn't have an epiphany of sorts. I just hear good Southern Rock, but it doesn't stand out to me as anything incredibly special. What am I missing? Is it the melodies> The Lyrics? Is BBS one of those bands you have to see live to appreciate? (I'm totally willing to buy into that because some of my favorite bands, I was just "meh" on until I saw them live)

There are some great moments on this album! But for me, Blackberry Smoke lacks the killer melodies and excellent storytelling of Turnpike Troubadours, or the blues/rock edge of, say, Whiskey Myers. Maybe my taste for heavier music is clouding my judgement or something? I just feel like I'm missing something here! As someone who also reviews, I always wonder if someone hears or discerns something completely different than what I get out of an album or song. I guess that's the beauty of music, it's up to interpretation, and can be whatever the listener needs it to be. Great post! (I'm pretty sure I was able to pick your takes out on most of them!) .....Been a while since I've dropped in here...

...but this is one of my all-time favorite albums, from my all-time favorite metal band. The first songs I ever heard from QR other than "Silent Lucidity" and "Jet City Woman" were from this album...and this was back in 2009. ("Spreading the Disease" was the one that really made me sit up and pay attention.) After 20 years of "Silent Lucidity," it was quite a shock, but a shock that was so very good. I ended up getting everything from the EP to Promised Land and loved it all, with The Warning getting to be my favorite...but Mindcrime was what got my love for classic metal rolling.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7765132843753834666.post-64234943548923009332017-03-26T08:55:33.861-05:002017-03-26T08:55:33.861-05:00Hence the "or Americana or whatever" add...Hence the "or Americana or whatever" add on.
